Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin’s recently revived project Zonal are about to release their first record since signing to Relapse Records.1. To date he has released 13 studio albums, the most recent being 2017’s Ununiform on his own imprint False Idols.Hell Is Round The Corner is published on 31 October. It also talks about the loss of his mother, who killed herself when he was four years old.Tricky launched his solo career in 1995, releasing Maxinquaye on 4th & B’way and then signing to Island Records. Featuring contributions from family members, music industry types and musicians such as Terry Hall and Shaun Ryder, the book chronicles his birth in the Bristol area of Knowle West in the late 1960s, his teenage years in the 1980s and his role in the city’s sound system scene – notably his work with The Wild Bunch sound system, which evolved into Massive Attack – and his move to Los Angeles. What could it sound like? Written in collaboration with music journalist Andrew Perry, Hell Is Round The Corner documents the life of pioneering record producer and rapper Tricky. These include a few versions of “Village Blues” from Coltrane Jazz (1961), two takes of “Naima”, plus versions of “Like Sonny” and “Traneing In” and its title track “Blue World”. The saxophonist went to the Van Gelder Studios with Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner, but only ten minutes’ worth of music made the final cut.Blue World features various takes of five tracks recorded at the session. A previously unheard recording is about to be unveiled by Impulse! Called Blue World, it showcases a selection of older works Coltrane rerecorded with his Classic Quartet in 1964.Coltrane had been approached by the Quebecois film maker Gilles Groulx to soundtrack his film Le Chat Dans Le Sac. The Australian label Chapter Music have previously reissued various Bloom/Connors recordings on CD. Both reissues come with bonus material: Sand In My Shoe has extra tunes from the 1982 live EP Pushin’ Up Daisies, and Moonlight features a selection of rare 1984 live recordings.Featuring regular Connor collaborator Robert Crotty, Moonlight currently has an average resale.
